It took about ten days from the onset for Dad to get back to what has been normal for him. The episodic nature of certain of his symptoms is very disconcerting since it is so difficult to figure out what if anything triggers the more extreme episodes which include hallucinations and severe delusions and disorientation and real problems with balance.
I had been convinced that anxiety was the main trigger but nothing out of the ordinary had occurred before things went out of control. It makes for quite a roller coaster and than increases the stress level all around. But for now, at least, his balance has returned and there are no visual or auditory hallucinations.
Not knowing what to expect makes for a real roller coaster and often puts me on guard, even on the defensive with him, as I look for signs of what’s coming.
