Moving On

Moving On

Dad died on November 12th, 2010.  The last five months have been a blur for me.  I can’t imagine that it is uncommon for caregivers to experience a period of “wandering”.  I’m 52 years old and have been entirely focused on caring for my parents for the last 10 years.

Now what?

I’m living in a house that may be too big or too much related to caring for the elderly.  I’m living in a town mainly because my parents were here. And many of my previous career pursuits have fallen by the wayside.  In this society – 10 years is a couple of lifetimes when it comes to career development.

So I’m wandering and questioning.  In one sense, I’m free.  But healing from the damage that comes from spending years caring for someone with dementia is not something that happens overnight.  At least not in this case.
